Got Questions?

Clarity & Confidence When

Accessing Your Pension Through An Approved Retirement Fund

When it comes to accessing your pension, we understand the decisions you have to make right now and how they will greatly impact your future finances. We will guide you through this process, giving you clear and concise options.

What Is An ARF?

An Approved Retirement Fund (ARF) is a personal retirement fund whereby after taking your tax-free lump sum from your pension, you can keep your money invested after retirement (in much the same way you had your pension invested).

You can withdraw from it regularly to give yourself an income, on which you may pay income tax, PRSI, and Universal Social Charge (USC). You retain ownership of the ARF Fund.

ARF Key Points At A Glance

You Stay in Control

You choose how your money is invested and how much income you take.

Flexible withdrawals

Take regular or once-off withdrawals. All income is taxed (Income Tax, USC, PRSI if applicable).

Minimum Annual Withdrawal

From the age of 61 years, the Revenue rules require you to withdraw a minimum of 4% per annum of your fund value.

Potential for Growth

Your fund stays invested, giving it the chance to grow, but it can also fall in value.

Passes to Your Family

On death, the remaining fund can be transferred to your spouse, children, or estate, which is often more favourable than an annuity.

Good To Know!

Past performance is not a reliable guide to future returns.
The value of your investment can fall as well as rise.
There is no guarantee that your retirement fund will provide a specific level of income in the future.

Who Is An ARF Most Suitable For?

An Approved Retirement Fund (ARF) is designed for retirees or individuals who want to maintain control, flexibility, and choice over how their pension is managed and accessed.

An ARF Is
For You If:

01.

You Want Control Over Your Income

Choose how much you withdraw and when. You like to manage your own retirement income rather than being locked into a fixed annuity payment.

02.

You Prefer To Keep Your Money Invested

Your fund stays invested with potential for long-term growth. This suits retirees and individuals comfortable with some level of investment risk.

03.

You Have Other Income Sources

Examples would be: state pension, rental income, or other savings that can support some of your financial needs. This gives you the flexibility to leave your ARF invested for longer.

04.

You Want Flexibility

You want to adjust withdrawals, change investment funds, or switch providers anytime. An ARF supports ongoing choice as your needs change.

05.

You Want To Leave A Legacy

You would prefer that any remaining ARF value you have can be passed to your family. This makes an ARF attractive for those prioritising inheritance planning.

I have been receiving advice from Jim Doyle in Guardian Wealth for 3 years. I was advised by a friend to use Guardian Wealth and so I contacted them when the time came to access my pension. I had a number of pensions that I was ready to drawdown but I was very confused as to how I should do this, and what I needed to do. ARF Ireland took control of the process for me and dealt with my existing pension providers to get me my tax free lump sum from the pension, and also set up my ARF & AMRF.

ARF Ireland differentiated themselves from the competition early on. They listened to me and tailored a plan suited to my needs. By engaging with them I was able to build an ARF investment strategy that I feel comfortable with and also kept fees to a minimum. I have also found them to be very client focused and willing to go the extra mile for me.

As a conservative investors, ARF Ireland created an ARF investment portfolio for me that gives the potential for reasonable growth during periods of financial market highs but also protects me from periods of market turmoil…they have also always fulfilled their initial promise to me to review my ARF with me on a regular basis.
